The scholar must also indicate that he/she will reside at Burgmann College in Canberra, St Mark's College in Adelaide, Robb College in Armidale, Roseworthy Residential College in Adelaide, Marcus Oldham College in Geelong or Trinity College in Cambridge (depending on the availability of accommodation and the location of the university) for the duration of the scholarship or for a period of 3 years, whichever is the lesser.
The scholarship is open to Australian undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking a 3- or 4-year course. Selection is based on interview and academic ability. Preference may be given to students intending to enter the Australian political field or other such activity considered beneficial to the Australian community.
The full value and number of scholarships each year is determined by the trustees after considering all relevant factors including the applicants' personal circumstances. The Hawker Scholarship normally covers all college fees.
