The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students whose opportunities to study at university may have been hampered by disadvantages beyond their control. The primary consideration is financial hardship but other disadvantages will be considered.
Applicants must: be Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents of Australia other than New Zealand citizens; be full time undergraduate students who can demonstrate an ability to triumph over hardship (e.g. financial disadvantage; non-English speaking or Indigenous background; carer responsibilities; geographic disadvantage; long term medical condition; or on-going effects of abuse); and be enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place. The scholarships are available for any undergraduate degree and students can apply at any stage of their degree.
The scholarship is valued at $4,754 per year (2012 rate, indexed annually) for up to 4 years. Students will have their ongoing eligibility assessed prior to each payment.
