Undergraduate Industry Scholarships are available to students enrolled in a certificate, diploma or applied degree, to undertake work experience on a piggery or with a service company operating within the pork industry.
Applicants must: be enrolled in a certificate, diploma or applied course of study at a recognised university or agricultural institute and expect to undertake practical experience as a requirement of that course; provide a recommendation/reference from a lecturer or other appropriate staff member indicating their suitability for the award, the appropriateness of the work experience arranged for the period of the award and assurance that the student is covered by the training institution's insurance whilst undertaking this work experience; and have support from a commercial piggery or industry service company. Applications must include an original academic transcript and applicants must organise for 2 referees to give assessments on the standard APL Referee's Report Form. Applicants may be required to attend an interview, and will be notified within 10 working days of a decision being made. A Training Award Agreement will be written between the training organisation, the applicant and APL.
The award provides an allowance of $350 per week for up to 10 weeks. The allowance can be used to assist with travel, living expenses and salary support. APL expects that the collaborating piggery or service company would contribute to the student's costs.
