Each year the foundation awards between 80 and 100 scholarships to students and doctoral candidates. The foundation attaches great importance to sponsoring foreign students. Besides the formal requirements, the foundation particularly wants applicants to correspond to the principles of the foundation and to be willing to assume political and social responsibility. The foundation arranges work placements on request.
The scholarship is open to students who have already graduated with an initial professional qualification. The program mainly supports students undertaking a master degree. Students are advised to submit their application to the Scholarship Department before the start of the postgraduate course. Applicants should still have at least 3 semesters of study remaining before achieving their degree. Applicants must prove excellent German language skills. Selection is based on academic excellence and socio-political activities.
Maintenance scholarships for international scholarship holders consist of a fixed sum and are calculated independently from parental income. Tuition fees for fee-paying courses in Germany cannot be financed.
