Each year the foundation awards between 80 and 100 scholarships to students and doctoral candidates. The foundation attaches great importance to sponsoring foreign students. Besides the formal requirements, the foundation particularly wants applicants who are willing to assume political and social responsibility.
Applicants must either have fulfilled the doctorate entry requirements of a state recognised university or college in Germany or, if holding a foreign university or college degree, be eligible to study for their doctorate in Germany. Selection is based on academic excellence and socio-political activities. Applicants must have at least 3 semesters of study remaining to complete their course.
