The scholarship is designed to enable recipients to continue their studies to an honours level or postgraduate coursework program.
Applicants must: be Australian or New Zealand citizens, or permanent residents of Australia other than New Zealand citizens; be eligible to study full time at the honours or postgraduate coursework level; be enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place or Domestic fee paying place; and demonstrate financial hardship. Consideration will be given to academic merit. Consideration may be given to applicants who: demonstrate the capacity to triumph over hardship; have an Indigenous background; have carer responsibilities; demonstrate geographic disadvantage; have a non-English speaking background; have a long-term medical condition; or experience ongoing effects of abuse. Priority will be given to applicants previously in receipt of a Macquarie or Commonwealth equity scholarship.
The scholarship is valued at $9,508 per year (2012 rate, indexed annually) for the duration of the program.
