Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

The program is designed to attract and retain world-class doctoral students who demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health. A total of up to 165 scholarships are awarded each year, 55 per council: CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research); NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council); and SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada).
Applicants must be pursuing their first PhD or combined Masters/PhD and should not already be receiving any other research council scholarships. Applicants must be nominated for a VCGS by a participating Canadian university. International applicants not in Canada should contact the Canadian university by June of the year of application for nomination.
The Vanier CGS Program is part of the Canadian Government's Science and Technology Strategy. The 3 funding agencies (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) will provide all the guidance, support and tools needed to administer and promote the program.
