The scholarship is awarded to highly ranked applicants for an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or Melbourne Research Scholarship (MRS) and is supported by the bequest of Alfred Oscar Capell, who died in 1949.
All applicants for an APA or MRS are automatically considered for this scholarship.
The scholarship provides: a stipend of $30,000 per year; a relocation allowance of up to $1,520; and a thesis allowance of $420 for master students and $840 for PhD students. Tenure is 2 years for master students and 3 years for PhD students.
